SITUATION:
An early childhood education organization was experiencing ongoing tension between site supervisors and teaching staff. Misaligned expectations, inconsistent communication styles, and unclear role boundaries created frustration, decreased morale, and posed risks to classroom continuity and overall team stability.
SOLUTION:
Exude Human Capital was engaged as a neutral third-party to assess and address the breakdown in supervisor–direct report dynamics. We began by conducting individual intake sessions with both supervisors and teaching staff to surface key themes, perceptions, and root causes.
Building on these insights, we facilitated structured mediation sessions grounded in psychological safety, creating space for open dialogue and productive resolution. These sessions focused on:
- Clarifying roles, responsibilities, and decision-making authority
- Establishing clear communication norms, including frequency, tone, and escalation paths
- Rebuilding trust through acknowledgment of challenges and forward-focused commitments
Following mediation, Exude HC developed a tailored action plan to reinforce alignment and accountability. This included clearly defined role expectations, formalized communication protocols, and structured supervisor coaching checkpoints paired with direct report feedback loops.
Senior leadership was engaged throughout the process to reinforce expectations, ensure consistency across sites, and monitor progress over time.
RESULTS:
The organization saw meaningful improvements in supervisor–staff communication, resulting in reduced workplace tension and a more cohesive team environment. Increased clarity around roles and expectations enhanced day-to-day operations and strengthened classroom leadership.
By addressing root causes rather than symptoms, the organization mitigated key retention risks and improved overall team stability. Additionally, the engagement established a repeatable mediation and accountability framework that can be scaled across other sites, supporting long-term organizational effectiveness.
