Interim Human Resources Support

SITUATION:

An institution of higher education (client) had an immediate need for interim HR support on an interim basis. The engagement included HR support five (5) days a week for a period of six (6) months with the option to extend. It included a combination of onsite and virtual support. The general focus of support included:

  • Assessment and Review of the HR Organizational Structure.
  • Leadership/Management of the HR Team.
  • Recruitment and Selection.
  • Benefits Administration.
  • HR Compliance.
  • Search for CHRO.
  • General HR Support.

SOLUTION:

Initially, the engagement was primarily strategically focused on assessing the HR function and organizational structure to implement best practices to ensure the needs of the organization and its employees were being met.

Exude developed a Project Plan and Roadmap which outlined the areas of deficiency and the plan for addressing each area. Specifically, flow charts were created so that the client could do a comparison of existing processes versus redesigned or new processes created by Exude, i.e., new recruitment and hiring process. Organization charts were created showing recommendations for the new HR organizational structure which included a Benefits and Leaves of Absence Administrator. Exude developed and defined key performance indicators (KPIs) for the HR Department which was new to the HR Department and organization. In addition, a Personnel Action Form (PAF) was created to be used each time there was an action that should be recorded in the employee’s personnel file or that required payroll action.

Because of the positive momentum and impact made to the organization, the client accelerated the search for a new CHRO. Exude then transitioned to a more tactical role of managing the redesigned HR Department and all of the new policies and processes that had been implemented, in anticipation of the new CHRO’s arrival. Exude also assisted with the search for as well as the onboarding of the new CHRO.

RESULTS:

The client was incredibly appreciative and receptive of the recommendations that were made and ultimately executed. These changes laid the much-needed foundation for HR to provide the necessary structure for the organization to serve as the instrument that governed important aspects of the client’s day-to-day business. The engagement was extended multiple times because of Exude’s success in understanding and meeting the client’s needs resulting in the engagement continuing in excess of one (1) year.
