SITUATION:
A multi-site, for-profit retail company with over 600 employees faced an unexpected vacancy in its HR department, leaving a critical leadership gap during a period of significant workforce needs. Without an HR leader in place, the organization risked falling behind in recruitment, onboarding, compliance, and employee relations — all essential to supporting their large, dispersed workforce. Leadership needed immediate interim HR support to stabilize operations and guide them through the transition to new permanent leadership.
SOLUTION:
Exude Human Capital stepped in to serve as Interim Director of HR, partnering closely with site leadership to identify pressing HR needs and establish priorities. Over the course of four months, we implemented improvements in recruitment, onboarding, compliance, and employee relations while also beginning to build and revise HR processes and infrastructure for long-term stability. To ensure continuity, we conducted an HR assessment to map out a clear roadmap for the incoming permanent HR Director. After the interim engagement, we continued to advise the new HR leader, supporting a seamless transition.
RESULTS:
The client reported restored trust in HR and greater confidence in the support structure for their field operations. Leaders praised the interim HR support for “jumping right in and handling everything like a true pro,” highlighting the calm, knowledgeable, and solutions-oriented approach. The assessment we conducted positioned the incoming HR Director to get up to speed quickly, ensuring continuity and minimizing disruption. What began as interim support became a trusted partnership that carried the organization through a critical transition and set their HR function on a stronger foundation.
